COFES 2013 Begins
--Design and engineering software visionaries gather for the fourteenth annual Congress on the Future of Engineering Software event in Scottsdale, Arizona--

SCOTTSDALE, Az., April 11, 2013—Cyon Research Corporation today welcomes attendees to the opening of the fourteenth annual Congress on the Future of Engineering Software (COFES). COFES runs April 11-14 at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort.
Widely recognized as a think-tank event, COFES gathers vendors, users, press, and analysts together to discuss the most important issues facing both customers and providers of design and engineering technologies. The three-day event provides a relaxed and informal atmosphere designed to foster thoughtful conversation. Key to the success of COFES is its briefings and roundtable discussions, where participants explore trends and technologies of engineering software that will drive future innovation.
“COFES provides a forum for industry leaders worldwide to gather and discuss the past, present, and future of design and engineering software,” explains Brad Holtz, Cyon Research President and CEO. “Continued advancements in engineering and design software are vital to the rapid development of innovative products. As a technology summit, our goal at COFES is to help attendees gain renewed excitement, insights, and opportunities that will advance future software design and engineering.”
Friday’s keynote speaker is Alexander (Zander) Rose, manager of the 10,000 Year Clock project currently underway in Texas. The goal of the 10,000 Year Clock project is to build a monument scale sculptural machine that will last as long as civilization. Rose will discuss the research and design process that has taken him as far as the arctic Seed Vault in Svalbard to the ultra-secret Mormon genealogical vaults in Salt Lake City.
The keynote speaker for Saturday is Esther Dyson, angel investor and innovation visionary. Dyson’s keynote address will focus on the business implications of exceptions — how software advances now allow businesses to handle exceptions as routine — leading to the rise of customization, personalization, dynamic pricing and one-size-does-NOT-fit-all models. Dyson’s address will detail how current software innovations are allowing businesses to manage this complexity in realtime.
Past attendees of COFES agree that COFES is an invaluable industry event. “Engineering, manufacturing, and research all have complex, changing data that does not fit easily into the standard database worlds, and these are the types of difficulties our data design addresses,” explains Dean Keith, President of Datura LLC. “Having attended COFES in the past, I’ve learned it’s a key place where ideas can come together and start to change the world.”
According to Ron Fritz, CEO of Tech Soft 3D, "COFES is THE place to have the type of spontaneous, spirited discussions with industry leaders that lead to interesting partnerships, new ideas and lasting relationships. Year after year, we leave COFES with new perspectives, new ideas and new industry friends."
Also starting today is the fifth annual Design and Sustainability (DaS) Symposium that explores the intersection of design, simulation and sustainability for both the built and manufactured environment. This free, but by-invitation only event gathers COFES participants to discuss how the tool makers of software for design and engineering can help their customers design more responsibly. The DaS Symposium explores the ways industry can help others make better informed decisions and in particular looks to identify ideas that are best served by collaborative efforts of the software community.
